Story

CONSTANCE (CONNIE) ANNE SUTTON    1951-1990

Born in Vancouver, Connie moved to Oakland, California with her parents and three siblings at age two.  She spent the next 15 years in California, and grew into a loving and gentle adolescent who enjoyed sports, art, sewing and math and exhibited a great love for animals.  Before graduating from high school as a straight “A” student, Connie frequently volunteered to tutor other students in math. Her scholastic achievements earned her an offer of a four-year college scholarship, which she declined to return to Canada with her family.

Shortly after moving north, Connie met her husband Ted, and the couple moved to Edmonton.  Over the next several years, she worked while her husband attended the University of Alberta.  Meanwhile, Connie attended night school while raising her two children, Danielle and Doug.  Thought perseverance, Connie attained her CGA designation, then moved with her family to Vermillion, AB where she was able to indulge her passion for animals by keeping horses and raising border collies.  Connie worked at the Credit Union in Vermillion, then accepted a job as accountant for Jean Pare, author of “Company’s Coming.”

When her marriage to Ted broke down, she moved with her children to Castlegar to begin teaching accounting at Selkirk College.  She derived great satisfaction from teaching and her interaction with her students. Tragically, she was diagnosed as having cancer after teaching at Selkirk for two years.  After a valiant nine-month struggle, Connie passed away at 39 years of age.
