Course Description:

 

This course will provide an historical background to human migration and world's exploration, including biographies of selected explorers, their lives, travels, and contributions to history and science. The content of the course will include four women and four men. Class format is instructor introduction followed by class member round table discussion with suggested outline. Format suggestions are welcome.
 
Brian is educated in the U.S.A.and Canada and holds a BA and MA in anthropology with an emphasis on indigenous people of N.W. North America and PHD.in archaeology with field work in Quebec, N.W.T., Egypt, and Tenerife. He was employed by Indian Affairs in Ottawa and in the B.C. Central Coast. He taught at the college and university level for thirty years.

Owl Prowl

 

Course Description

Do you have a fascination for owls or consider yourself a night owl? Then, join us for Owl Prowl! This course includes lectures and outdoor adventures, and you will learn about the different species of owls that call the Kootenays home. Further, take a journey outside to listen for the owls setting up their breeding territories for 2024!
 
All you need is a keen interest in learning more about owls and a sense of adventure to be outside, at night, in the woods!

Meet The Instructor:  Lisa Buckley, Ph.D.
 

Lisa is a vertebrate paleontologist with 17 years of experience with the fossil dinosaur footprints and bones of British Columbia. Lisa also has a lifelong passion for birds and fossilized bird footprints!  She runs the science communication project: "Bird Glamour"  (https://lisagbuckley.com/scicomm-bird-glamour/) where she uses cosmetics as a conversation starter to get people interested in birds and bird conservation.
