I graduated from Selkirk’s Business Administration diploma program with honours, majoring in Accounting and Finance, and decided that the next logical step was to obtain a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) degree. My Selkirk diploma easily transferred directly to several universities but I chose Thompson Rivers University’s Open Learning Division because I didn’t want to have to relocate to complete my commerce degree. After that, I plan to pursue my Chartered Accountant designation.
While attending Selkirk College, I was actively involved in the Business Venture Club as a director on the board. As well, I received many scholarships and awards, including the Mal Stelck Leadership Award. Additionally, in the Selkirk College 6th Annual Business Competition, I came in first place for the Students’ Choice, the Judges ‘ Choice for the winning team, and the Judges’ Choice for the best second-year student overall. I also gained international business experience in Georgia (Europe), when I was selected along with another student to take part in a two week internship in the spring of 2011. During the trip, I worked alongside students and staff from Selkirk College, Thompson Rivers University, and the Georgian Technical University.
My experience at Selkirk helped me to acquire a 2012 summer student position in Risk Management (internal audit) with Newalta Corporation.
