Year-End Concert Series

The Year-End Showcase Concert Series 2023 features students from the Contemporary Music & Technology Program performing original and cover songs in a variety of genres, from pop and rock to folk and jazz.

An annual tradition at the Shambhala Music & Performance Hall, you are invited to check out the chops of the program's budding musical talents. Admission is by donation, and doors open at 7 pm with the show at 7:30 pm. Seating is limited, so show up on time.

This night’s line-up features two 30-minute sets from Haleluya Hailu & Sapphire Guthrie.

Haleluya Hailu, Indie Rock

Haleluya Hailu is a singer-songwriter who is incredibly comfortable with being uncomfortable. With the help of reverb-drenched guitars and dreary vocal layers, acoustic guitar and bad dance moves, it’s a sound you’ll want to stay stuck in for a while. Haleluya's set weaves moments of musical safety with a mix of original music and classics from songwriters past and present.

JGet uncomfortable with Haleluya Hailu joined by the fake friends:

Sapphire Guthrie, Singer-Songwriter/Folk-Fusion

Sapphire Guthrie is a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Her poetic, warm and lyrical songs span many contemporary genres and are inspired by themes like the human condition, social and political affairs, and the beauty of the natural world.

Currently 19, she is studying voice, guitar, songwriting and composition in her third year of the Music & Technology Program. She is a long-time member and mentor with Allison Girvan’s choirs, where she discovered her love for intricate harmonies, which she now weaves into her own music.

Sapphire writes songs in English and Spanish, and draws musical inspiration from artists including Joni Mitchell, Buffy Sainte Marie, Chris Cornell and Nelly Furtado.

Enjoy a captivating evening of original folk-fusion music by Sapphire Guthrie and her six-piece band, featuring Damien Alblas on guitar, Nathan Fadden on drums, Colby Greaves on bass, Nieva Cunningham on cello/keys, Luzura Ramos-Swantson and Megan Carlson on vocals.

The shows are open to the public by donation at the Shambhala Music & Performance Hall on Nelson's Tenth Street Campus. Each evening features two 30-minute sets. Doors open at 7 pm and the show starts at 7:30 pm.
