Board of Governors outgoing director Scott Weatherford

Providing invaluable wisdom and experience to the college’s governance structure, Scott Weatherford and Audrey Repin are being praised for their years of service to the board of governors.

Trustees of public interest, the Selkirk College Board of Governors has been a cornerstone of operations since the college was established through a regional referendum in the mid-1960s. Composed of external and internal members, the government-appointed board positions reflect various sectors of the community served by the college.

“Scott and Audrey have helped guide regional post-secondary through some pretty challenging years, we are very grateful for their service to students, staff and the community,” says Selkirk College President Maggie Matear. “An important measure of our overall success is how we directly serve the residents of our region. The work that both of these dedicated community-builders have provided gives us that vital connection and they have strengthened our ability to deliver relevant education.”

The day-to-day management of the college is headed by college administration. A legislative requirement of the province, the board of governors adopts policy, approves programs, sets the budget, monitors performance and helps ensure continuing relevance of programs. The board also includes several internal members who represent students, faculty, support staff and the president.

Community Builders Provide Leadership

An alumna of Selkirk College and possessing a wealth of community development experience, Repin joined the board in 2018. Currently the Community & Indigenous Relations Lead at Columbia Power Corporation, her experience has been an asset at the board table. A proud mother of two grown daughters who graduated from the college’s Bachelor of Nursing Program, Repin’s commitment to close to home post-secondary has helped strengthen the student experience.

The CEO of Fruitvale-based ATCO Wood Products Ltd., Weatherford’s leadership at the board table has provided a steady hand since being appointed in 2017. Originally from New Jersey and a registered professional engineer, he has a passion for helping ensure post-secondary delivers the educational foundation and career-ready skills needed for stronger communities. Serving three years as chair of the Selkirk College board, Weatherford will continue to be involved on the Selkirk College Foundation board.

“When I arrived to the position of president just over a year ago, getting to work with such committed and excellent board of governors members helped me tremendously as I settled into the role,” says Matear. “Audrey and Scott helped set the direction of the college during the pandemic, which was no small feat. They will be missed, but they can leave knowing they made a difference in the lives of so many learners by their humble behind-the-scenes work.”

Current board of governors’ chair Margaret Sutherland will announce the new appointed members in the coming weeks.
