Student Ambassadors Open Doors to Campus Life

Castlegar Student Ambassador Team 2023

On a mission to bolster student life and serve as a trusted resource for peers, Selkirk College’s 2023-24 Student Ambassador team is off to a terrific start.

A student-led group of volunteers, this year’s Student Ambassador team members are permanently stationed on the Castlegar Campus, Nelson’s Tenth Street Campus and the Trail Campus. With diverse backgrounds and representing a variety of programs, ambassadors help promote health and wellness initiatives, organize events, give campus tours, answer questions, elevate fun and simply act as a friendly face to everyone on campus.

“It’s vital to have student leaders on campus that are so willing and ready to help make Selkirk College the best it can be for their peers,” says Katie Comrie, the college’s Healthy Campus Coordinator. “A post-secondary education can provide so much more than what takes place in the classroom, so this group works hard to make sure their peers have a memorable experience. They are essential to the work being done through Healthy Campus and this year’s team is already doing a terrific job.”

Located in The Hub at the entrance of the Castlegar Campus’s main building, all students are encouraged to visit their peers during regular office hours. At the Tenth Street Campus and Trail Campus—where the Student Ambassador program is just taking flight—there is no permanent office, but students can look for their peers in the maroon t-shirts. A first-stop for information, access to college services and mentorship, this year’s team is eager to help.

“I really enjoy meeting other students from all different programs,” says Logan Campbell, this year’s Student Ambassador Team Mentor and a third-year Rural Pre-Medicine Program student. “Whether you are making the jump to post-secondary straight from high school or are a mature learner, the entire situation can be a little a daunting. I’ve learned a lot in the last couple of years about life as a Selkirk College student and it’s a good feeling to have a chance to share that with others.”
