"I loved drawing and painting and wanted to pursue a career in the arts industry so Selkirk’s Digital Arts and New Media program was a good fit for me.
The Digital Arts program at Selkirk introduced me to all of the fundamental skills I needed to be successful in the New Media industry. I learned how to effectively use professional tools and equipment, and learned the principals of design and how they apply to digital. I had amazing classmates and instructors who inspired me to push my work further than I would have on my own.
I thought the program touched on all New Media disciplines, it’s affordable, and you will have the opportunity to work with amazing people. Since the program introduces students to all aspects of the industry, participants can better choose where they would like to specialize, while improving their ability to collaborate with other disciplines. The small class size and the collaborative nature of New Media projects help you to build lasting relationships that are invaluable as you enter the work force.
I graduated from the Selkirk Digital Arts & New Media Program in 2007. I then transferred to University of Lethbridge, through Selkirk’s transfer program, and completed my four year BFA Degree.
When I look back, it’s hard to believe how far I have come considering that I didn’t know how to burn my project to CD on the first day of class. And today, I have a great career working as a digital graphic designer on the lululemon brand experience team. I also worked as the Senior Designer at the digital marketing agency Evans Hunt Group. I designed the visual look and feel of websites based on clients' needs. I enjoy delivering extraordinary user experiences by organizing information in clear and visually appealing ways.
I also just launched a new web project with fellow new media grad Paul Oslund."
