Message from the Board Chair

Margaret Sutherland

Our board is privileged to serve the West Kootenay and Boundary region’s only public post-secondary education institution. We are proud of the region’s commitment shown in 1964–1965 at which time a regional-wide vote approved the creation of British Columbia's first regional college in the Interior.

Since that time, Selkirk College has produced thousands of successful learners from within and out of our region. Many have stayed in our communities and continue to be significant contributors and engaged citizens.

At Selkirk College, our mission is to build remarkable futures together.

Whether this is your first time in post-secondary education or you are a returning student, our excellent faculty and staff are committed to providing you with accessible, authentic, relevant and inspiring learning experiences that are aimed at helping you achieve your goals.

Selkirk College serves approximately 2,500 full time students and almost 10,000 continuing education learners in six communities in the West Kootenay and Boundary regions of British Columbia; and across the country through face-to-face, distance and combined delivery. We offer high-quality, affordable and personal learning in the creative, digital and performing arts; in the environmental and natural resource fields; the health care, community and social service disciplines; in hospitality, tourism and resort management; in business; in the skilled industrial trades; in academic upgrading; and university transfer in the arts, sciences and humanities. Selkirk College has students from across the country and our international programming welcomes students from almost 20 countries throughout the world.

Thank you to all the students, faculty and staff, present and former governors, donors and community supporters. Your contributions have been phenomenal and have created a wonderful reputation for Selkirk College that we will treasure and protect.

Sincerely,

Margaret Sutherland
