Jim Lamont
Jim Lamont Legacy Bursary
In lieu of gifts for his birthday, Jim asked his friends and family to make a $90 contribution, a dollar for each year of his life. On the special day, $90 donations began pouring in from as far away as Sunnyvale, California. The funds were used to establish the Jim Lamont Legacy Bursary, which will support students studying in Trades programs at Selkirk College for years to come.
Dr. Sandra Alfoldy
Dr. Sandra Alfoldy Memorial Scholarship
The legacy of a trailblazing craft historian lives on through the Dr. Sandra Alfoldy Memorial Scholarship, which assists students in Kootenay Studio Arts (KSA) programs. Raised in Creston, Alfoldy was the first person to earn a PhD in craft history from a Canadian university and co-founded the Dr. Sandra Alfoldy Institute of Craft. She lost her battle with cancer in February 2019 at age 49.
Terry Marshall
Muriel Florence Cullen Memorial Nursing Fund
Students in the Selkirk College Nursing Program have access to increased financial support thanks to the generosity of long time Kootenay local Terry Marshall. In honour of his late-aunt Muriel Cullen, Marshall donated $24,000 to establish a bursary fund supporting nursing students studying on the Castlegar Campus.
