Advanced Plan Reading for Carpenters is a hands-on course designed for experienced carpenters and building trades professionals who want to strengthen their ability to interpret and work confidently with architectural and structural drawings.
Using a detailed commercial/government building project and a set of residential house plans, participants will work directly with real-world prints to deepen their understanding of complex construction documents.
Through guided instruction, problem-solving activities, and collaborative exercises, students will build advanced skills in navigating drawings, interpreting symbols, sections, schedules, specifications, and structural details, and applying this information to layout, material takeoffs, and planning.
The course also explores building code considerations, coordination with other trades, and on-site professional responsibilities.
This 30-hour course is best suited to those with prior experience in the trades, a basic understanding of plan reading, and competency in trades-related math.
Participants will leave with increased accuracy, efficiency, and confidence when working from construction drawings in commercial and residential settings.
