A variety of scholarships are available to support full-time students.
Types of scholarships
There are four different types of scholarships:
Grade point average (GPA) scholarships are based on exceptional academic achievement.
Department nomination scholarships are for top students in a department.
Application scholarships have specific criteria and students apply online.
International scholarships are awarded by Selkirk International.
To qualify for a scholarship, you must be one of:
A Canadian or international student in a post-secondary semester program who completes the Fall and Winter terms maintaining a minimum 80% course load. Students with a documented disability must maintain a minimum 40% course load and be registered with Accessibility Services.
A student in a trades program who maintains a minimum 80% course load. Students with a documented disability must maintain a minimum 40% course load and be registered with Accessibility Services.
A student in Academic Upgrading.
Apply between February 15 and March 31.
Select the awards that apply to you. You do not apply for department nominations or GPA scholarships. These awards are processed internally. Award recipients will be notified by early July.
Students must confirm whether the award will be accepted or declined by the requested deadline.
Students who accept the award are required to complete a thank you letter to the donor.
Getting the funds
Award recipients will receive their funds at different times, depending on what type of award they received.
No Hold awards will be released mid-August and cheques will be mailed to the award recipients.
Return to Selkirk awards require students to return to Selkirk College for further studies. Award funds will be applied to the student’s trust account in mid-August. After the third week of the start of the student’s program, funds will be released to pay tuition. Students are required to pay any outstanding tuition amounts by the fee deadline date.
Continuing Anywhere awards are given to students transferring to other post-secondary institutions. The funds will be released once the recipient provides proof of enrolment.
