What does full-time equivalent mean?
Post-secondary institutions calculate the number of students by full-time equivalents (FTEs), which is the total number of students if students were attending a full complement of courses as the program was designed.
The calculation varies by program because programs differ in the number of hours of learning deemed appropriate for the discipline.
Selkirk College has regular intakes for a variety of programs throughout the year, with fall and winter being the largest, and registrations also occurring in non-standard months.
At the end of each budget cycle, Selkirk College reports to the provincial government “yearly” final FTEs that mark the enrolments seen from April to March of each calendar year.
