The season of giving at Selkirk College kicks off on December 2 with Giving Tuesday and extends until the end of the year!
Giving Tuesday is a global movement that began in 2012 with a simple idea—it’s a day to encourage people everywhere to give back and do good. It’s about the power of generosity and how, together, we can make a real difference.
At Selkirk College Foundation, we believe Giving Tuesday is our chance to show students that we’re behind them every step of the way. According to Selkirk College’s 2024/25 Student Engagement Survey, 39% of students worry about covering living costs and tuition. At the same time, 84% believe Selkirk College works hard to remove barriers to education.
Our community of care at Selkirk College provides food security, student supports, mental health resources and programs that celebrate diversity and inclusion, providing a barrier-free education to all students.
In 2024/25, thanks to your help, we distributed over $515,000 to students to help them prioritize learning. “As a mature student with no financial support available from family or friends, any kind of help is much appreciated and makes it much more feasible for me to focus purely on education while I am enrolled as a student," says Daniel McCarten, a student in Applied Environmental Science and Planning Technology.
Let’s keep that momentum going and continue to show our support! Every act of generosity counts! If you'd like to support students at the college and continue to provide barrier-free education, please give today.
