Enjoy a Night of Emerging Musical Talent

The Year End Showcase Concert Series presents students who are preparing to graduate from the Contemporary Music & Technology Program. A blend of original and cover songs from a variety of genres, students perform with peers in a series of shows that are open to the entire community. 

Admission is by donation with doors opening at 7 pm. Each student performs a 30-minute set that begins at 7:30 pm. Seating is limited, so show up when doors open to make sure you are able to enjoy a night of emerging talent at the intimate Shambhala Music & Performance Hall on Nelson’s Tenth Street Campus.

This night will feature sets from Sera Kate and Anna Isabella.

Sera Kate, Contemporary Composer

Sera Kate Stevens is a multi-instrumentalist composer who presents the goal of being innovative and resourceful with her creations. Fluent on piano, flute, trumpet and bass guitar, Sera Kate has also explored French horn, trombone, guitar and saxophone. Alongside her distinct interest in film scoring and orchestral arranging, Sera Kate is drawn to electronic music production. Her versatility captivates her audience from her groovy basslines to her euphoric progressions. 

Originating from the North Coast, Sera Kate’s home is in Prince Rupert. She is currently studying at Selkirk College’s Contemporary Music & Technology Program in Nelson. Sera Kate has a strong background in dance and musical theatre, which has contributed immensely to the development of her natural musicality.

Enjoy an evening of contrasting original compositions, spanning from disco and pop to classical and electronic. Featuring Cameron Simon and Carson Venne on vocals, Caelan McCarthy on drums, Finley Kinghorn on guitar, Anna Hendry on bass guitar and Rayne Theisen behind the soundboard, Sera Kate will be sure to have you dancing in the aisles.

Anna Isabella, Indie Pop

Anna Hendry is a singer-songwriter and a multi-instrumentalist. She shares a depth of personal emotions in her songs, including themes of love, nostalgia and growing up. You can catch Anna on stage dancing with a sparkly guitar and warm vocals, singing about her life experiences. She pairs uplifting and driving compositions with her intimate lyrics.

Anna’s showcase will be a night full of gravitating stories through music and bubbly banter you will not want to miss. Anna’s set intertwines charming bedroom-pop music and gritty indie rock songs, creating captivating dynamics in her performance. She draws inspiration from artists such as Beabadoobee, Clairo, Led Zeppelin and Cocteau Twins. 

Anna, a 20-year-old graduating Selkirk College student, is a songwriting major who also studies vocals, guitar and bass. The friends joining her for this exciting performance include Cameron Simon on backing vocals, Drew Storey on backing vocals and guitar, Karissa Hanna on piano, Cao Lê Hoàng on drums, and Sera Stevens on bass. Some featured performers are Nieva Cunningham on cello, Carter Lorenz on violin, and Aiden Schalow on saxophone.
