The Fundamentals in Architecture, Construction & Engineering (“ACE”) micro-credential is a unique summer educational experience designed to introduce students to the fields of architecture, construction management, engineering and related disciplines.
Students participate in a 6-week summer program at Selkirk College’s Castlegar Campus. Topics include construction project management, building technology literacy, digital modeling, and communication/professionalism.
The aim of this unique immersive micro-credential is to support young adults and women to explore the spectrum of careers that exist within the architecture, construction, and engineering (ACE) sector, and to orient newcomers to Canada with a background in an ACE-related field to the sector in BC.
This training empowers participants to make informed decisions about their continued education and career path. If you already have a post-secondary program in mind, or are currently working in your field of choice, the ACE micro-credential is not for you. Please pursue your dream.
This program is delivered in partnership with BCIT.
Cost
This program is offered free of charge to applicants selected to participate.
The tuition for this micro-credential is currently fully funded by the BC Workforce Innovation Fund through a partnership between Local Practice Architecture + Design Ltd. and BCIT.
Format and Dates
This 6-week course is scheduled for July 6 – August 14, 2026.
All courses are taught in person. Most instruction happens at Selkirk College’s Castlegar campus with occasional field trips. A 3-day wall and window assembly workshop will be held at the Selkirk Technology Access Centre in Trail (transportation provided from Castlegar).
- Course 1: Digital Modelling Fundamentals (45 hours)
- Course 2: Introduction to Construction Project Management (45 hours)
- Course 3: Introduction to Building Technology (45 hours including wall and window assembly workshop)
Entrance Requirements
This program is open to young adults (18-26), women, and newcomers to Canada with a background in ACE-related fields. Applicants must demonstrate the following:
- English language proficiency
- Good computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
- Good business communication skills, and/or the desire to develop or improve them (including speaking on the phone and in person, and writing emails)
- A keen interest in exploring careers within the field of architecture, construction and engineering
- Access to a computer with reliable internet service
