Dyllan Lachelt is proud to be both a Selkirk College employee and graduate. Having called the Kootenays home for the past 25 years, she has deep roots in the community and a strong appreciation for the role post-secondary education can play in transforming lives and creating opportunities for students in rural areas.
Her own journey at Selkirk began with a Certificate in Esthetics in 2012, followed by a Diploma in Liberal Arts and Sciences with a focus on Creative Writing in 2015. While working as an esthetician, Dyllan continued her education, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English, a Bachelor of Education, and later a Master of Arts in Children's Literature. Along the way, she developed a passion for learning, teaching and helping others achieve their educational goals.
In 2022, Dyllan returned to Selkirk College as an instructor in Academic Upgrading and University Arts and Sciences. She has also worked in student support roles, including the Writing Centre, where she enjoyed helping learners build confidence and develop the skills needed to succeed in their studies. These experiences continue to shape her student-centred approach to education.
Today, Dyllan works in the Teaching and Learning Centre, where she collaborates with instructors to explore and implement technologies that enhance teaching, accessibility and student engagement. She is passionate about helping educators use technology in practical and purposeful ways that foster connection, reduce barriers and create meaningful learning experiences.
What drives Dyllan's work is a desire to help create the same sense of opportunity, encouragement and belonging that shaped her own journey as a student. She is committed to ensuring that future Selkirk College learners have access to the support and experiences that can help them discover new possibilities and achieve their goals.
