Course Description

Observe the world through drawing. Explore composition and layout, expressive mark-making, perspective, and basic value/texture drawing techniques. Gain the confidence and skill required to accurately depict subject matter in dimensional space and discover an inspiring range of ways to use pencil, ink, and watercolour. See the supply list below for items to bring.

Teri Ward received her BFA and Bachelor of Education from the University of British Columbia. She has taught drawing, painting, sculpture, art history, and design for many years at various schools throughout the province, including KSA at Selkirk College. Teri has received a number of prestigious awards for her drawings, including the BC Binnings award. As well as an artist and educator, Teri also works as an architectural illustrator.

Supplies will be discussed at the first class; just bring what you have (of the following) to the first class:

  • 3 drawing pencils (HB, 2B & 4B recommended)

  • 3 fine line pens in varying weights (.1, .3, and .5 recommended)

  • 9" x 12" spiral-bound sketchbook for general purpose, dry-media

  • Hardcover mixed media or watercolor sketchbook (no smaller than 5" x 7")

  • Eraser

  • Watercolor paints (travel pan paint kit or a selection of tube paints)

  • Watercolor brushes

  • Waterproof India ink

  • Drawing nibs and pen holder

  • Palette
