Board of Directors

The Selkirk College Foundation is governed by a volunteer board of directors made up of leading professionals from within the college region. The board manages and guides the foundation to foster and promote interest in higher education. 

The Selkirk College Foundation's key purpose is to support the students, plans and priorities of Selkirk College to build confident and imaginative learners ready to thrive in their community.

Bruce LeRose, Chair

Bruse LeRose smiles

Bruce LeRose was born and raised in Trail, BC, and was educated at the University of British Columbia. He has practiced in the West Kootenay with the same firm since being called to the bar in 1983. He was made a Queen Counsel in 2006 and received the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal from the attorney general of British Columbia in 2013 for meritorious services to the legal profession.

He is a Life Bencher of the Law Society of British Columbia and served as its president in 2012, becoming the first member of the Kootenay Bar to do so in the society's 130-year history.

Sharel Wallace, Chair

Sharel Wallace

Sharel Wallace is a staff accountant at Yule Anderson Chartered Accountants in Castlegar, BC, and holds a certified management accountant designation. Sharel began her accounting career in Vancouver, where she worked for the Bentall Group as an intermediate accountant in the property management division.

Sharel returned to her hometown of Castlegar in 1990 to raise her children close to family, working as a self-employed bookkeeper. Once her children reached elementary school age, Sharel returned to work part-time at a public practice firm, moving to full-time once her children reached middle school age. Sharel and her husband, Dan, enjoy spending time with their family and working in their yard.

Angus Graeme

Angus Graeme first entered the regional post-secondary community in 1992 as a short-term contract instructor in Selkirk College’s Forest Technology Program, and he moved into a full-time teaching position soon after. As a faculty member, he was awarded a Standing Committee on Professional Excellence Award and a National Institute of Staff and Organizational Development Excellence Award.

Angus began taking on leadership roles in the early 2000s, including chair of the School of Environment & Geomatics and vice president, academic & student development. In 2011, he became the president and CEO of Selkirk College.

Angus is a graduate of the University of British Columbia. Before he joined Selkirk College, he worked as a professional forester.

Dr. Maggie Matear

Dr. Maggie Matear joined Selkirk College as the president and CEO in 2022. She holds a Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of Waterloo, a Bachelor of Education from the University of Western Ontario, a Master of Business Administration from Dalhousie University and a PhD in management from Queen’s University. She has taught at Queen’s University, Algoma University and Athabasca University, and has won awards for her teaching and her research, which focuses on social responsibility, sustainability and public policy.

Previously, Matear was the vice president of university services, finance & administration at Yukon University, where she oversaw finance, human resources, mental health and wellness, infrastructure and continuing studies.

Matear has devoted her career to post-secondary, leadership, community development and advancing the goals of reconciliation. She is committed to Selkirk College’s mission of building remarkable futures through a community, access, respect and excellence.

Scott Weatherford

Scott Weatherford

Scott is the CEO of ATCO Wood Products Ltd. and the Nelson & Ft. Sheppard Railway Co. in Fruitvale, BC. Scott and his wife founded ATCO Wood products in 2006 as part of the reorganization of ATCO Lumber Ltd. 

Prior to joining ATCO in 2005, Scott held various executive assignments in purchasing and auditing with PACCAR Inc. (parent company of Kenworth and Peterbilt Trucks) in Bellevue, WA. Scott’s early career was as a mechanical design engineer with John Deere (Moline, IL), Cummins Engine Co. (Jamestown, NY, and Seymour, IN) and Kenworth Truck Co. (Kirkland, WA). Scott is a registered professional engineer in the state of Washington. He holds a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Cornell University (Ithaca, NY), as well as a Master of business administration from the University of Washington (Seattle, WA).

While Scott was born and raised in New Jersey, he is pleased to call Fruitvale, BC, his home along with his wife and two children. Scott’s community activities include director for the Lower Columbia Initiative Corporation, member of the Board of Governors for Selkirk College and group commissioner/scout leader for Scouts Canada in Fruitvale, BC.
